Microsoft is ditching the Nokia brand name from new devices, less than a year after acquiring the Finnish mobile firm.
New Nokia Lumia smartphones will instead by known as Microsoft Lumia.
A post on Nokia France's Facebook page confirmed the branding shift. The renaming will roll out globally in due course, Microsoft has said.
It is worth noting that Nokia, the part that Microsoft didn’t acquire in its $7.2 billion deal which closed in April this year, remains unaffected by this rebranding. It remains to be seen what logo and brand name Microsoft sculps on the future Windows Phone devices, and whether this move helps the company improve its phone’s market share
